    I realize this is 5 years old, but if anyone has used this socket, how often (if at all) do you find yourself putting in new hardware such as the knob system, the string, etc.?

    • @ReneeShadley
      @ReneeShadley Рік тому

      I would say once or twice a year, however it is very dependant on how your system is actually built and the stresses that are introduced if not built correctly.

    Hey Renee do you still like revofit sockets? I change volume quite a bit throughout the day and my prosthetist mentioned it to me. Can you wear a sleeve with them?

    • @ReneeShadley
      @ReneeShadley 2 роки тому

      I do still like revofit sockets, but I am not currently using one, my volume stays pretty consistent, and without the Revofit system I can wear a much lighter and less bulky socket. The most noticeable difference in the two setups is that I don't have or need a flexible inner liner. Yes you can still wear a sleeve, but a suction or vacuum system is harder to build around a revofit setup.

      @@ReneeShadley thank you for response. 👍 I am close to a year post amputation and still having quite a bit of pain in some areas. I don’t think it would be as bad if my volume didn’t fluctuate so much. Hopefully it evens out here soon.

      I have very little volume change so no at this point I don't use the Revo fit system. It was a challenge getting and keeping my prosthetist on board with the system but while I had it it did exactly what it was supposed to do. I would routinely adjust up to about 10 plys.

  • @ST-fl5fy

    Hi I just found this system today. I’ve been amputee BKa since 2005. I’m 51yo but decent shape. I’ve tried Ottobock Harmony which is the best feeling of it being part of me. Downside not much flexion. Hard to bend. I had a pin socket in beginning and had many socks. Sores. I’ve tried vacuum systems I use now mostly like ossurs where you have a ring that you pull up as you lose volume. It works pretty good. But you do have adjust throughout day. My main issue has always been volume loss as day goes on. Do you think this is a good system for a seasoned amputee or only new amputee? I wonder could it work with my seal in system seems it could. Without the pin. Do you still use it or moved on? Thank you!!!!!

    • @ReneeShadley
      @ReneeShadley 2 роки тому

      My advice is only go with this system if your prosthetist is confident in using it and uses it regularly. It's great but needs to be understood for a great outcome

This is going to make my life a waste of oxygen once I am too old to use the prosthesis. I will be dependant on others to help me do anything. This looks amazing. My residual limb is very odd. It was mangled in the wreck I was in and the numerous surgeries I had. I was never able to put weight on my leg after the accident. I was in a wheelchair for 4 years until FINALLY a surgeon in Ga. said the metal in my leg was infecting my bone. Very painful and it refused to heal plus I got drop foot. I was soooooooo happy to finally have my amputation done and get my prosthetic leg 🚶‍♀️🚶‍♀️🚶‍♀️ it's such an amazing thing to walk again it raised my self worth/self esteem dramatically. I'm in my second socket now and I have the suction system not the pin lock. I'm currently unable to wear my prosthetic. Or for a very short period of time or it creates a horrible raw sore from rubbing my leg. Your new leg I do believe is the answer to EVERYTHING! I can't wait to talk to my guys about it!! I have even considered an above knee amputation bc not wearing my leg and not walking is just NOT an option! You are a true inspiration to me! Ty soooooooo much for sharing this information with us. • @ReneeShadley
      @ReneeShadley 3 роки тому

    • @ReneeShadley
      @ReneeShadley 3 роки тому

      It's not all roses, but life wasn't all roses before my amputation either. I can walk now, and before I struggled to just cross the road. I would say that I am much better off compared to where I was and again way better off than where I would have been today. My best advice is to take the time to heal, pushing things too hard to soon will guaranteed set you back at least temporarily, and possibly permanently. Outside of that, do your research, understand the surgery, and educate yourself on types and quality of prosthetics. It will be up to you to get what you need, don't leave it up to somebody else to decide what they want to sell you.

I talked to amputee who just took place in a karate tournament, something I could never dream of doing right now. There are just so many things I want to do in my life that I can’t or won’t be able to do if I stay where I am at right now. I am only 37 y/o and have a young family so I gotta be able to keep up with them. If I was 70 or older I don’t think I would consider such an extreme measure. I've been looking for something like this. Question: I am very active. Running, biking, skiing, etc. The shape of my limb is an hourglass. My current socket is designed that I have to "jam" my lower limb through the socket so I can get a tight fit. Would this allow a socket to be loose enough for me to get in an out, yet secure enough for extreme activity? (Like racquetball and running?)

    • @ReneeShadley
      @ReneeShadley 3 роки тому

      These sockets can be built several different ways, one way is to build it like a clam shell to make donning your prosthesis much easier, also look into the revofit lanyard, vs a pin, the lanyard draws your leg into the socket naturally lengthening and narrowings your residual limb, vs squashing and thickening like the pin lock

    My condolences for you and your family. You are an amazing and strong person. You helped me out when I was in the hospital on 2/13/19 without hope... I got on UA-cam an began to watch videos about amputations because I was told I had to have one immediately within the next 8 hours. Thank you for giving me the strength to see you do it and encourage me at a weak moment that I can come out and thrive. God bless you and keep you. From my family to yours we love you in Jesus and your in our prayers. God bless. I hope you keep on making these videos because it helps a lot of people like me and you are very good at it. 🙏🏽blessing and love

    Just curious , what is your favorite socket and why. Thanks

    • @ReneeShadley
      @ReneeShadley 4 роки тому

      My favorite socket is my current one, it's lightweight, no inner liner, and it just fits great, my volume is very stable these days, but early on the revofit sockets really helped me manage volume changes without socks.

      I'm not sure on pricing, here in the states insurance is the main driver of pricing, its very hard to get numbers for an accurate estimate without insurance

    If you don't mind, I don't know your whole story. Last week I was told my August 3rd 2018 subtalar fusion was a complete failure with a nonunion and 0% healing. Did you have any nonunions? I'm trying to decide if a 50/50 percent chance is worth the revision or if I should go with the bk. Which will be the only option if the revision also fails. Thanks for your time. Kelly

      No, My fusion was successful, but then everything else wore out around it, it took about 10 years, but then I was up for new fusions, with little chance of success. An ankle replacement would have been a better option, especially since my 10 year fusion, always caused me pain

      @@ReneeShadley thanks for the reply. That's pretty much my story as well. I'm at 11 years with the tibia talus fusion, and now 7 months with a subtalar fusion, that failed. And if they want to fuse my forefoot in the next 3-5 years I can't see any benefit to that. Thanks again
